The Apple Watch SE 2022 model may gain an Always On display (according to LeaksApplePro, again!) New processor One complaint about the Apple Watch SE (and any Apple Watch prior to the introduction of the feature with the Apple Watch Series 5) is the fact that the Apple Watch doesn’t display the time constantly – you have to raise your arm to wake the display up. So you might have to pay even more for the cheapest Apple Watch than you did before, unless Apple continues to sell the older Apple Watch SE… This is according to LeaksApplePro (writing for iDropNews) who claims Apple will bump the price of the Apple Watch SE to $299. If Apple stops selling the $199/£179 model it would be a surprise if it also raised the price of the Apple Watch SE, and yet like the iPhone SE, the next Apple Watch SE might have a higher price. In contract the Apple Watch SE (GPS model) sells for $279/£249 for the 40mm model, or $309/£279 for the 44mm model. Does this mean it will get a price drop? The Apple Watch Series 3 currently sells for $199/£179 for the 38mm model or $229/£209 for the 42mm model. If the Apple Watch 3 is discontinued the Apple Watch SE 2 will become the new entry-level Apple Watch. Gurman has also predicted that the Apple Watch Series 3 will be discontinued, which is no surprise given the fact that the Apple Watch 3 won’t even be able to run the new watchOS 9. We expect to see these three watches launch at the same time as the new iPhone 14. Back in February 2022 Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman wrote that he expects a new SE to launch alongside the Apple Watch Series 8, but that’s not all – he also expects to see an Apple Watch Pro for sports enthusiasts. It’s standard for the manufacturer’s newest wearable to boast all-new silicon, and we don’t anticipate the Apple Watch Series 9 being an exception to that rule.An upgraded Apple Watch SE was exptected. Could the Apple Watch Series 9 be the first to sport a Mini LED display?įinally, we would fully expect the next Apple Watch to run on a new chipset. On top of that, while we’ve seen Apple rolling out Mini LED display tech to MacBooks and the iPad Pro, we’ve not yet seen this different type of screen on any of its wearable devices just yet. Perhaps the Apple Watch Series 9 could be the first to boast the fastest available mobile data speeds. Cellular editions of previous watches in the series, even the Apple Watch Ultra, have had LTE connection but not yet 5G. Given that the Apple Watch Series 8 was a relatively minor upgrade, can we expect a major specs jump from its sequel? Apple Watch Series 8įirst of all, there’s been plenty of speculation about whether the new watch will have 5G connectivity. Nonetheless, we certainly have been considering what could arrive on the new watch to set it apart from previous generations. Given how early we are in the development cycle of the new watch, it’s no surprise that we haven’t come across many reliable rumours just yet. We’ve not yet encountered reliable rumours pertaining to the price, but we’re keeping our eyes open for any activity on that score. While the US price stayed at $399, in the UK it was hiked up to £419, whereas the previous model had cost £399.īased on this information, we’re at least hoping that the price will probably stay similar to this year’s, with an increase perhaps being unlikely to happen two years in a row after not having happened for several previous years. The price of the Apple Watch has stayed roughly similar for the past few years, but there was a slight increase this year, at least for British customers. The Apple Watch Series 9 will then be available to buy in the shops a few days after this launch. Apple Watch Series 4: September 21, 2018.Apple Watch Series 5: September 20, 2019.Apple Watch Series 6: September 18, 2020.Apple Watch Series 8: September 16, 2022.This is based on the launch schedules of previous years, which you can see outlined below: Going by previous trends, the Apple Watch Series 9 is most likely to be released in September 2023, alongside the new iPhone 15. While we’re a year away from its launch, and rumours are fairly thin on the ground, this article collects all the information and speculation that we currently have to hand regarding the new smartwatch. The Apple Watch 9 will likely be the brand’s next wearable, and we’re expecting it to arrive in 2023.
